Date of implemented Module: 14.6.2024.
Place of implementation: Rade Dodić Elementary School, Trstenik
Facilitator: Marijana Trifunović Dimitrijević
Environmental activism is the act of taking action to protect and preserve the natural environment from harm caused by human activity. It involves advocating for changes in policies, regulations, and practices that may be harmful to the environment and promoting the adoption of sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternatives. Environmental activists work to raise public awareness about environmental issues, push for greater accountability from corporations and governments, and create positive change through various forms of direct action, such as protests, petitions, and boycotts. The goal of environmental activism is to promote a healthy and sustainable environment for present and future generations.
Environmental activism can achieve many positive outcomes for the environment and society. Raising awareness is one of the most influential outcomes of activism. Environmental activists can help raise public awareness about environmental issues, including climate change, pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction through different sets of activities, campaigns, marches. This increased awareness can lead to more people taking action to protect the environment. Activism can influence change in policy. Activists can influence government policies and regulations that impact the environment, such as setting emissions standards, establishing protected areas, and limiting the use of harmful chemicals. It can also hold corporations and companies accountable. Activists can pressure corporations and companies to adopt more environmentally friendly practices and hold them accountable for any harm they cause to the environment. Environmental activism can promote the adoption of sustainable practices, such as renewable energy and responsible consumption, which reduce the impact of human activity on the environment. Activism can help protect natural resources, such as water, air, and soil, from pollution and other harmful effects and they can help with building communities. Environmental activism can bring people together to work towards a common goal, building strong and resilient communities that are better equipped to respond to environmental challenges.
Young people have a crucial role to play in environmental activism because they are the ones who will inherit the planet and its environmental challenges. Why young people should be encouraged to become environmental activists:
– BECAUSE of the Long-term impact. Young people will be affected by environmental challenges such as climate change for a longer period of time than older generations. Thus, their involvement in environmental activism is crucial for long-term impact.
– BECAUSE of the Fresh perspectives they bring: Young people bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the table, which can be valuable in developing innovative solutions to environmental problems.
– BECAUSE of the Passion and energy they have: Young people are often passionate and energetic about issues that affect them and their communities, making them powerful advocates for change.
– BECAUSE it is crucial to educate them and raise awareness among them: Engaging in environmental activism can help young people learn about environmental issues and develop a deeper understanding of the impact of human activity on the planet.
– BECAUSE of Building skills: Participating in environmental activism can help young people build skills in areas such as leadership, communication, and community organizing, which can be valuable throughout their lives.
Young people have a unique perspective and energy that can make a significant impact on environmental activism. Encouraging and supporting their involvement will help create a more sustainable future for all.

It involves individuals and groups taking action to advocate for positive change in environmental policies and practices, and to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect our natural resources.
